HEART OF ENGLAND KITE FLIERS

Welcome to the blog for the
HEART OF ENGLAND KITE FLIERS.

We are NOT a club. There are plenty of good kite clubs to join. Most of us belong to MKF, the Midlands Kite Fliers.

We ARE a group of kite enthusiasts who meet in the West Midlands, Normally in Sutton Park. Anyone is free to come along and have fun.

9th March 2008 - MKF Stan Lunn Memorial fly-in, Sutton Park - Boldmere Gate.

Taken from e-mail from Ian:

As you may have heard one of the main attendees of the Boldmere Gate fly-in Stan Lunn died recently.

The Funeral was held last Wednesday and was attended by Ian and Julie Wilson, Jim Cronin, David & Anne Buckland and Mike S-P as friends and representatives of MKF along with his close friends and family.

Ian has spoken to Stan’s family and with their agreement it has been decided to dedicate the March 9th Fly-in to Stan, and in memory of him it will be called the MKF Stan Lunn Memorial fly-in, Sutton Park - Boldmere Gate.

We will be holding a minutes silence at 12pm after which we will release three black helium balloons with a simple card attached.

If you would like to attend and say your goodbyes to one of our best and cherished friends and would like to add your name to the card then please come along.

The Fly-in’ starts at the usual time of 9.30am and finishes at 2pm at the usual place Sutton Park, Boldmere Gate, Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, West Midlands.

See details to the left.

Thanks to Ian for arranging this.

A really great fly in. The wind was quite strong, but good. Smooth from the South.

A number of MKF members were able to attend the memorial for Stan, and the balloons were taken to the aircraft field for the launch.

In the afternoon, I spent a lot of time trying to demo trick flying on the Fury .85 (not best from me!), and managed a quick KAP session, flew the Hargreaves Box and helped some local youngsters with their kites.

Any other comments?

Thanks John - this is Sara - for showing me some tricks that can be done! I am keen to start learning tricks. Unfortunately, my 10 year old Prism Legacy is going in the bin, and I'm looking for a £50-80 kite to learn on before buying a Jest of Eve Talon. In my mind I have the following kites: Elliot's Slide, Level One's X-Treme Std and Eolo Neox (may be too dear) and New Tech Techno kites. Has anybody any experience of these kites and can tell me if they are any good for tricks? (Oh and, by the way, John, for somebody who said they were no good at tricks, you did a lot of great tricks!) Thanks to all for welcoming David and I as new members and for the teach-in and hospitality...amongst strange weather conditions! Hail, sun, rain, shine, the lot! Any comments on the kites I have mentioned would be gratefully received, and also any advice about a DVD to buy to learn tricks from??? That's it for now!! Thanks in advance for any help re trick kites that cost £50 - 80.....
